Education Ministry Announces Recruitment Drive to Fill 12,000 Vacant Teaching Posts
New Delhi, July 28, 2025 – The Ministry of Education has launched a nationwide recruitment drive to address over 12,000 vacant teaching positions in Kendriya Vidyalayas (KVs) and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas (JNVs), aiming to bolster the quality of education across India’s public schools.
The announcement comes as part of a broader effort to ensure uninterrupted academic progress for students in government-run institutions. According to the Ministry, the vacancies have led to increased reliance on contractual teachers, prompting urgent action to fill these gaps with permanent staff. The recruitment process, which began this week, will prioritize candidates with expertise in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Mathematics) and language education to align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020 goals.
“We are committed to strengthening our education system by hiring qualified educators who can inspire the next generation,” said Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in a press conference. The Ministry has also introduced an expedited hiring process, with applications open until August 15, 2025, and interviews scheduled for September.
This move follows reports of teacher shortages impacting student performance, particularly in rural areas. Education experts have welcomed the initiative but emphasized the need for comprehensive training programs to ensure new hires are equipped to handle modern pedagogical challenges, including the integration of AI tools in classrooms.
